Kandy Lake is situated by the side of Dalada Maligawa . The lake adds color and beauty to the city of Kandy . It is a very popular spot for relaxation both for the residents as well as tourists who visit Kandy . Formerly this was a vast stretch of paddy fields. The lake was constructed by Sri Wickrema Rajasinghe, the last king of Kandy and the last of the long line of Sri Lankan Kings. The lake was called ‘ Kiri Muhunda’ ( the sea of milk) and the wall round the lake was called ‘Walakulu Bemma’ - wall of the clouds.
